Hey Augie, here is wishing you all the best. I know its been about 20 years or so, but I still think about you Jerry and others playing, jamming and most of all being a part of something special. God bless you, your family and everyone who to whom you touch through your music and your kindness.

Hello!

I remember that my Dad had this super cool shirt with an accordion on the front with "Hey baby que paso" encircling it and the iconic Augie Meyers ponytail screen printed on the back. (this was back in the early 80s) I have searched high and low and have never been able to find it again. Please tell me the merchandise link will be up soon and that iconic shirt will be available!!! Or if anyone knows where to find one, please let me know! Thanks!

Hi Augie... just finding your music now, even though I'm an ex-Houstonian living in exile in Milwaukee, WI. Even though it is a tad cold and north of the Mason-Dixon line, there is a great local music culture up here. My folks live in the Austin area, so if you are playing out next time I get back to the "Country of Texas" I'll try to find a show to see you live. The "Through the Years" tracks are great. I'm glad I found your music. Thanks.

Augie, needless to say that I've loved Sir Doug it seems forever, and one of the first tunes I ever heard was "A Man Can Cry" by Freddie Fender. I saw a remake of Sir Douglas Quintet doing "Who'll be the Next in Line" by the Kinks, and it's been on my mind for a few days, with you doing your organ work, and some young guitarists adding a punkish feel. It had to have been from the late seventies/early eighties, because I remember that recording.

I'll always love you wild San Antone/South Texas cats. The music takes me places in times of need, and that's what it's all about. Long live funky Tex/Mex Southwest music.

Hey, Augie,

It was a lot of fun to play with you today at the Bulverde Festival. I agreed with all the comments (!) you made in between songs, too. Thanks to Charlie Wood for putting all that music together today. I hope to see you again soon, and maybe play with you again. If you ever need a bass player or soundman, let me know (or Charlie).

I was also at the show at Casbeers and thought it was great!!!

In reply to what Sharron wrote….
Sharon, I don't think you understand politics. You need to study up and get your facts straight and stop bringing race into the picture.
I didn't hear anything wrong with what Augie said. How come celebs can really talk sht about the Republicans but turn the tables and they get attacked personally. And, besides what Augie said was a joke. He told a bunch of jokes that night.

God Bless Augie!!!!

Saw you at Casbeers. Sat in the front row. You and Frenchie did great! Just a note---you were a groomsman in my first wedding, 40 years ago (Bob Danielson, photographer). I have photos.
Another note--- Study up on your politics before you bring it up in public. Unless you are rich (McCain says that is making more than $5 million a year) and don't care about anyone else, you'd better vote for Obama. Get your facts straight. McCain doesn't know how many houses he has and doesn't even know what kind of car he drives. He will do away with Medicare and privatize Social Security. He will also make tax cuts to the rich permanent. Healthcare prices will also go up. I don't think you're a racist so it must be a lack of understanding. If you had made the "Obama comment" early on in the concert, we would have walked out. Better yet---do what you do well---perform.

Dear Augie, feeling rather eclectic today while surfing the net and I plugged in your name. I was thrilled your site came up. You wouldn't remember me or my sister, but we started a fan club back in the 60's when you and the Visions of Light played in my old home town of Wichita Falls. I have followed you thru the years and caught some amazing concerts. I still love your unique music today. You were (and from your fans still are) one of the kindest dudes I ever met. Howdy Augie !

Maybe you remember me. I'm Jean-Pierre VIEU from France. I paid you a visit in Bulverde in August '79 our August '80 (Don't remember well !!). I came with a french friend of mine and Franck Haecker from San Antonio who took us to your house in Bulverde. There was a Hurricane called Allen and plenty of tornadoes falling down in the area !!! We ate tamales cooked by your wife Carole and we talked a lot this fantastic afternoon. Your son Clay was not at home and probably chasin' girls in the area !! Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! I'll always remember this day I met a Texas Legend ! Now I'm 54 and feel too many time passed (away) ! I'm not sure I'll fly to Texas someday but I'm sure we'll meet again in "Groovers's Paradise" when our days are gone. Thanks Augie and Keep On Truckin' !

Hi Augie, Since I have retired I missed hearing your music. Im sure you remember playing at the Marion Packing Co. bar in Rockport-Fulton back in the 70's. I use to hire you to play there on the weekends when you had a open dates. You were alway one of my favorite bands to come there and the people enjoyed your music. I left Rockport 2 years ago and moved back to Michigan to retire. Give shout back if you have time.

Hey Augie, I doubt that you remember me. I was a teen age kid that hung around Doug Sahm, Bobby Jett and those guys in 1962. I rode with you during a party at Billy Gates house out on Hwy 87 to pick up a girl named Georgia that night. You had a new white Chev convertible, I think. You where the man then and you are the man NOW!! I saw you in the San Antonio River parade the other night on TV and so I looked you up on the NET to see what you were doing. I still love your music and cherish my brief brush with a REAL Texas Legend!!

Hello there,

just dropped by while searching for some "Tex" who played a '64 Vox Organ, as it is scratched on the back of my continental.
Reading all the bands and people you played with (hooray for Bob Dylan!) it reminded me of the "The commitments"-movie I've seen recently and of
"Joey 'The Lips' Fagan" :) I'll check out your music, I guess I can learn something about playing the conti.

Hi, Don't know if you'll get this, but was wondering if you remember playing Galveston about 33 years ago. I worked at the Seahorse Inn and let you all stay for free. Later you came to my apartment and gave me a kitten. I named him Augie Doggie. I went to John Marshall High School in San Antonio with Bea Spears and his little brother Beudroux ( don't know if I spelled that right???) Traveled a bit with Bea on the road. I don't know if you remember Chris Holzhaus ( hope I'm spelling that right Jeez) and Roy Rouseau. Anyway I've lived all over the country, now I'm in Redding,CA. Don't know why , just turned out that way. I thought of you with Doug Sahm's and Freddie Fender's passing. I wish you well and wish I was closer to see you play again. The Best to You,

Mr. Meyers:

Thank you for all the wonderful music you have made over the years. Your distinctive keyboard artistry is truly a God-given talent. I know you might not answer this question from your guestbook, but I've always been curious about whether you played organ on Chris Montez's hit "Let's Dance." If you didn't, what makes it sound like you did? Is it the style of playing used or the type of organ itself?

I will be moving to Houston in the next few months. I hope you will be playing there soon. Thanks again.

Augie

On the Ides of March 2007 our beloved Charles Francis Winans went to join Freddy and Doug in the great big band in the sky. Now that band is going to have some brilliant posters to promote their celestial tours. But “Wino’s” impish wit and irrepressibly creative talent will be sorely missed back on Earth.

Take good care of yourself Augie, because that paradisiacal orchestra has enough talent already and we still need Space Cowboys here on Terra Firma.

Hello! My heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your "Freddy." He'll always live in our hearts and his wonderful music. My heart broke that day, too. I listen to his music and remember that beautiful smile and the sparkle in those eyes. He would look to the right for his "Augie." He's at peace now, teaching angels how to sing. Take care and please come back to Mississippi, someday. L

It's so sad to hear the news about Freddy. I've heard his voice as well as yours for most of my life, if not all. I've met all of you, and know you are wonderful people... Heaven will be blessed by Freddy's face, may he sing with the angels now!!!I'm from MS, dated Chris Jurado, I have so many wonderful pictures of each of you & all. Do you remember last year at Tunica,Ms when a family member was taking our picture together and I told you to turn so my son (at home) could see your ponytail? Hi Augie!

My foster-dad, Robert "Bobby" Freitag told me about some great memories he had of you while growing up. He'd always play your music out in the garage when he needed some time away from us 9 kids.

I was wondering if you had any memories of him?
He lived in several places such as La Vernia, St. Hedwig, and Martinez, Texas. He drove a car which he named "The Green Hornet." He's related to the Lenz family if you're familiar with the name. He was also in the Navy for a short time.

Just curious if you remembered him. He was recently diagnosed w/ a form of leukemia and I thought it would be nice for him to hear from former friends.

By the way, Love your music! I'm a big fan!
Will be moving out to Japan for the next 3 years... my husband's in the Navy. Will be playing lots of your CDs!

I just listened to My Main Squeeze. Man, that's a fine record. I know the Tornados, but now I know where some of that fun comes from, and it's on your record. The LP sounds great (it's out on CD, so you other folks know you can get it) and I'm going to be looking for your other recordings too. Hope you get to these parts someday.

Best wishes,

Soap Creek Saloon, August 1977. Big potholes on gravel road. Low ceilings. Smoking lights low in the eyes. Hotest jalapeno nachos in Austin. Cold Pearl Beer. Cowboys and Hippies morphed into one. Crowed, hot and sweaty. Big guy playing the organ with enough soul to fill the room. That's all I remember. That and the fact that my buddy threw up out the car window on the way home...right where some clueless yankee has built his 2 million dollar home.

Augie, you rock!

I mentioned you in my daily blog (www.sonnyradio.com)and remember you once saying, "I do what I have to, so I can do what I want to." You've done it with style all these years, Augie. You are a testament to what being a musician is all about. I know that Doug is smiling down and watching with pride.

Play on, Mr. Meyers.

Augie, meeting you back in the '70s at KMAC changed my life and opened me up to a lot of things unknown to a little Northside Gringo-boy.
I still wish I had taken you up on that offer to audition to sing with the band you and Clay were forming back then. You've stayed true to your roots while exploring the musical cosmos, and I only hope that journey continues for a long time to come. Keep me on your list.

Dear Augie,
My name is Vickie Collins and my husband was Ronald Collins he told me that he played the drums for you as a fill in one night in San Antonio Texas. He passed away in Feb. of this year in San Antonio Texas. I just wanted to know if you remember him playing for you, he never forgot and always talked about it! He was a great drummer and will be missed so.

Augie, If I had a nickel for everytime someone thought I was you, well I'd have about $4.75. Once had a woman PHYSICALLY GRAB ME and she couldn't beleive that I didn't remember her (I was with my wife and receive a not so good look from her) when she said common Augie you gotta remember me, well I explained to her that I wasn't you, I even had to take out my drivers license to satisfy her. But anyhow I grew up in Bulverde, and you lived right off the Cibolo Creek on the Comal County side. Always enjoyed your music. Love to meet ya and maybe even get a picture. Catch ya later, Ron

Hey Augie,
Remember that 1980 New Years Day when you told me to get my education and not be like you, my brothers and the other pickers I knew. Well Augie, I will walk on August 7, 2004 wil my MA in Educational Psychology & Agency Counseling. I'll start to work on my PhD in the fall. Now finally, all of you older cats will have an allie on the old couch to tell your troubles, worries and care et al. And remember, since you're like family, you get the big discount (ha ha ha). Take care and God Bless! Give my best to Clay and the rest. By the way, what happen to Martin?

I really enjoyed hearing you, Louie Ortega, Ernie Durawa and all the others at the Doug Sahm tribute at the Vancouver Island MusicFest last weekend in Courtenay. It was a real treat hearing both the music and the stories. Your Texas All Stars set was fabulous; I had to get the old bod up dancing, of course. Your set was so much better than that of Dr. Hook with Ray Sawyer. I know, different music and all, but it couldn't come close. Anyhow, I had to get out the two Sir Douglas lps I have and am listening to Midnight Sun as I write.
I've been driving around playing your new CD which you autographed at the festival. I hope to hear and see you in British Columbia, on the Island again! Come back anytime

Hey Augie,
This is Dave Jones, your old Bass Player... I am thrilled to see that you've released "Blame it on Love" I'll never forget the recording session when you said "This is gonna be funky", and as the song developed, man the groove was monster!
I still have the original demo from the night we cut the song for the first time ..and every time I give it a listen, I feel the joy of that session all over again.
If you every get over Panhandle Florida way, stop by the Hogs Breath in Destin, FL. I'm playing 5 nights a week there.
Say howdy to Clay for me.
Adios,

Thanks for all your great music - with Sir Douglas, Texas Tornados and solo. Most importantly, my teenage son loves your music and plays it on his piano/organ. It gives us a great common interest - plus, I get to listen to great songs in the bargain! Now, he has included Fats Domino in his songlist (its great to hear "Whole Lotta Love" wafing from the family room as well as "Mendocino" and other songs).

Thanks. Your music (and my son's renditions of your music) makes me smile.

Great website! I'm proud to have known Augie for 44 years... back to the Denny Ezba days. Always a unique musician and a super guy.

Sometimes I regret not staying in the business, but I'll always have the memories of the late 50s with you, Ezba, the Kagens, Rocky Hill, and others. Great site, man.

I just wanted to be the first to sign the book and pay homage to the great Augie Meyers. My wife and I just love the new CD....what am I saying we love them all.
